What Does the Diesel Ban Mean for HGVs?

Posted on Posted in Advertising & Marketing, Auto & Motor, automotive, car, Travel, vehicle

The world of driving is changing a lot at the moment. There are driverless HGVs being tested all over the UK and Tesla is working on electric HGVs too – with some already on the roads, albeit not for general sale right now. It’s not easy to be a fleet owner right now – it’s almost at the stage of Betamax vs VHS – what’s the right investment for your company? Well, one thing’s certain – it’s not diesel. “The government in the UK wants to completely get rid of diesel by 2040 and it’s starting with a plan to remove diesel cars from the road – with HGVs most likely not far behind” warns a training supervisor at HGV Driver Training Centre.

Air Pollution and Diesel

Michael Gove instituted the measure as a part of his work as Environmental Secretary, to tackle air pollution. At the moment, the ban is just for cars, but as companies look to update their fleets of HGVs, it makes sense for them to consider getting ahead of the diesel ban, because when diesel is no longer on sale, they will find their current fleet useless (as well as illegal!)

Financial Support to Switch Vehicles

There is a plan to offer financial support for car drivers, offering them a payment of £1000 to £2000 to help with the costs of swapping from a diesel car to a lower emission vehicle or an electric one. HGVs could benefit from a similar scheme, but right now their options are more limited. There aren’t any electric HGVs on general sale so companies don’t know what the logistics of running them are, the common problems, or how much it costs to keep them on the road. These are all questions that wise fleet owners will be ‘waiting and seeing’ rather than forking out for a new fleet themselves. It doesn’t make sense to be the early adopter when right now there aren’t really any penalties for being the one still running diesel. That could change, though.

Disincentives for Diesel Vehicles

Diesel hasn’t been banned yet, though the government does want to make it as unappealing as possible for drivers, and it is doing that through a number of disincentives for those who still drive a diesel. The Toxicity Charge (T-Charge) is due to take effect as of the 1st of October, and there will be other extra expenses added on top of the cost of fuel, as well as parking charges. This should help to undo some of the damage that Blair’s campaign, to get people to switch to diesel, caused. After all, it’s hard to blame people for driving diesel when for many years they were told that it was the environmentally friendly choice. Now, it’s proven to a bad choice – and it’s going to take a while to re-educate people and get them looking to low emission vehicles instead.

It’s unclear when the scrappage scheme will start – if it even does – but …

Cleaning & Dressing Car Plastics & Trim

Posted on Posted in car

Exterior plastics & trim should be regularly cleaned to ensure that dirt and contaminants do not become ingrained in the surface. It’s also important to dress them after cleaning to prevent premature fading which can occur from sunlight exposure and from the weather in general.

It’s important to keep your interior plastics & trim clean for hygienic reasons. Dirt, particles and odours sit on the surface and if left uncleaned will build up in layers over time providing the ideal environment for undesirable germs and bacteria to form and be transferred.

If your car has light coloured interior plastics & trim even any small marks can leave it looking grubby and unsightly.

Once clean, dressed interior trim will help to restore an ‘as new’ look and also help to protect it from harmful uv sun rays and from anything else that might be spilt/deposited on them accidently. Dressing your interior trim will also make it much easier for you to clean and restore next time.

If your car has any exterior plastics & trim it should be cleaned along with the rest of the exterior every time it is washed. After an initial thorough clean with either a designated plastic cleaning product or a diluted all purpose cleaner, a regular shampoo product can be used to suitably maintain them. Dressing/protecting your exterior plastics & trim every time your car is washed may not be required, however a good time time to do it would be when you are giving your paintwork a wax top up in between polishing.

Interior plastics should initially be thoroughly cleaned and properly protected, then simply maintained and spot cleaned whenever the rest of your interior is being regularly cleaned. You should reapply a dressing/protectant whenever the rest of your interior has had a thorough clean or simply when the finish begins to diminish.

Plastics & trim should initially be thoroughly cleaned using either a designated plastic/vinyl cleaning product or a diluted all purpose cleaner. Cleaning products can be worked into the grain if necessary with a stiff bristled detailing or nail brush. Exterior plastics can be followed up using a normal shampoo product and wash mitt whilst washing the rest of your car but interior plastics & trim should be dried off with a micro fibre towel.

Once clean, plastics & trim should be dressed with a designated interior/exterior dressing/protectant product, this should be applied with a micro fibre applicator pad and any excess product removed or buffed over with a clean dry micro fibre towel.

How Does A Car Engine Work?

Posted on Posted in car, vehicle

First things first, the car engine is an internal combustion engine, of which there are a number of different types, including the diesel engine, petrol engine, rotary engine and two-stroke engine. The internal combustion engine runs on the basic premise of injecting a tiny amount of high energy fuel, for example petrol or diesel, in a small enclosed space, igniting it and creating a massive amount of energy in the form of an expanding gas. The trick the internal combustion engine pulls off is setting off explosions like this hundreds of times over a minute and managing to harness the energy that is thus created. Almost all cars use a four stroke combustion cycle to convert petrol into motion, the four strokes being – intake, compression, combustion and exhaust. At the beginning of the cycle, the piston starts at the top, once the intake valve opens, the piston moves down, letting the engine take in a cylinder full of air into which is also injected a drop of petrol. The piston then moves back up to compress the air with the drop of petrol, the compression will make the explosion that is about to occur all the more powerful. When the piston reaches it’s limit, the spark plug emits a spark which ignites the petrol, causing an explosion thus driving the piston back down. When the piston it reaches it’s bottom limit, the exhaust valve opens and the exhaust leaves the cylinder, leaving the vehicle by the tailpipe. This cycle is then repeated over and over again. The linear motion of the pistons is converted into a rotational motion by the crankshaft which subsequently turns the vehicle’s wheels. So as you may have gathered, the cylinder is one of the core components of the internal combustion engine. Most cars have four, six or eight cylinders.

Vw Eos: Made Fun and Affordable

Posted on Posted in car, vehicle

All-new 2007 Volkswagen Eos spells CSC, which stands for coupe, sunroof and convertible. Eos coupe convertible was produced in the previous year. Said model uses a groundbreaking metal sheet to make it fun and affordable.

Prior to the production version of Eos, it was first shown as a concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in 2004. The vehicle is produced in Volkswagen’s Autoeuropa factory in Palmela, Portugal. Its rhardtop, on the other hand, was designed and created by OASys.

Car parts for Volkswagen Eos include new body panels that blend with its unique 5-piece folding hardtop. The latter comes with an integrated glass roof. Volkswagen body parts for Eos are designed to cater to both the 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder motor that can generate 200 horsepower, and the 3.2-liter VR6 motor that produces 250 horsepower. The power produced by the engines is transported using the new VW Direct-Shift Gearbox.

Now, on the new version of Eos, the automaker is offering 5 engine versions that range from 85 kW/115 PS to 184 kW/250 PS. The new car standard specifications include Volkswagen alloy wheels, leather-lined steering wheel, ESP, 8 hydraulic cylinders, electric windows, air conditioning, front head restraints, front airbags, head-thorax airbags, and roll over protection system.

Car enthusiasts cannot help but admire how roof panels lift and part and how body panels lift and fold in a span of 30 seconds. The sunroof of Eos is also fun. It can be opened to allow fresh air to enter the car or it can be enjoyed as a panoramic tinted glass roof. Other automakers like Cadillac, Lexus, Mercedes-Benx, Volvo and Pontiac, acknowledges the potentials of retractable hardtops. Moreover, they are concentrating on the refinement of said car feature.

Volkswagen Eos is not only intended to be exciting but affordable as well. Pricing of the vehicle ranges from under $28,000 for the base version to $36,850 for a V-6, automatic version. Its rivals – Pontiac G6 and Volvo C70, are priced at $28,565 and $39,090 respectively.

Through October this year, Volkswagen sales are up by 9.9 percent. This figure reveals a back to normalcy status for the affordable brand. Eos, contribute significantly in keeping the turnaround on pace. …

2011 Volkswagen Jetta Price and Specs

Posted on Posted in car, vehicle

The new Volkswagen Jetta is an entirely new vehicle design. The appearance of its fully galvanised body shows this most emphatically. Never before was a VW Jetta this large, this sporty, this independent. Just how independent? One sign is that the Volkswagen Jetta no longer shares any body components with the technically related world’s bestseller, the Golf. Instead, the new Jetta impresses as an independent vehicle like the Passat CC or Tiguan. And it is just as safe; the previous model was already named “Top Safety Pick” in crash testing by the US organisation IIHS. Along with optimal occupant crash safety, the car has further advanced pedestrian safety features. With the Jetta, Volkswagen has once again introduced entirely new standards of quality to a vehicle segment.

Exterior styling and dimensions

The new model is 182.7 inches (4.63 metres) long, 57.1 inches (1.45 metres) tall and 70.1 inches (1.78 metres) wide (length of the European version: 4.64 metres). This makes the Volkswagen 3.15 inches (8 cm) longer than the previous model. The interplay of exterior dimensions produces a powerful ratio of proportions. In parallel, the new Volkswagen “design DNA” sharpens its style. This has resulted in clear precise lines and athletically muscular surfaces that give the saloon an image of timeless elegance and dynamic styling. The result: the Volkswagen Jetta’s appearance makes such a dominant styling statement that the Volkswagen practically positions itself in a higher vehicle class.

Front end: Here it is the coupe-like incline of the windshield and the consistent use of horizontal lines that define the design. The high-gloss black radiator grille forms a stylistic unit together with the trapezoidal headlights. The dual reflector headlights are sectioned by a so-called masking blade into a larger area with the low and main beam lights and a narrow lower section with daytime running lights and indicator lights. The chrome masking blades guide the horizontal lines of the front end right into the headlights. The result: the Volkswagen Jetta has a wider and more dynamic visual stance. In the area of the low-beam light, new H7 Longlife halogen discharge lamps are used which have a significantly longer service life. The parking and daytime running lights – generally subjected to more severe loads – are also designed with Longlife or Super-Longlife technology. Optimal tuning of the mounting height and size of the low-beam reflector produces very good and broad illumination of the roadway with an emphasis on the driver’s side.

Just beneath the grille and headlight unit is the cleanly sculpted surface of the fully painted bumper. One section lower, another cooling air intake and a tray-shaped front spoiler (in the style of ‘splitters’ used in car racing) give the car a sporty finish. The upper section of the front end displays a powerful transition from the v-shaped engine bonnet to the wings on the sides; the shoulder section here reflects dynamic and muscular styling.

Side profile: In the saloon’s side profile, design characteristics that mark all new Volkswagens meld into yet …

Finding The Best Used Car Deal

Posted on Posted in automotive, car, vehicle

People assume that dealerships are the only place to find great used car prices. This isn’t true! Today, there are many options for buying a used car such as car guides, personal ads, and the internet. Cars cost a lot of money, so make every dollar count. This article will help you buy a used car that meets your financial and practical needs.

You can find newer model used cars at dealerships. But, be prepared to encounter pushy salespeople. Make sure that you don’t do anything that you are uncomfortable with. To help you remember later, it is a good idea to take notes as you go from dealership to dealership looking for a car. It is worth it, just for the warranty, to purchase your used car from a dealer, even though it might cost you a little more than purchasing from a private party.

With everything the internet offers, finding a good used car online can be easy.
Buying a car online also eliminates having to deal with pushy salespeople. If you want to buy a car off the Internet, make sure you use a company that has a good reputation. Shopping online is relatively safe, but be cautious as the occasional scammer does exist.

Magazines like Auto Trader are a great resource if you’re looking for high quality used cars. Automotive magazines do more than just list cars for sale; they also include independent reviews and helpful hints for maintaining your vehicle. Some auto magazines only deal with new cars, so when buying a car magazine be sure to choose one that offers used car information as well. Private sales might be your best choice if you want a used car in top condition. You can find tons of private party used car ads online and in newspapers.

It is very easy to get suckered into a deal that you are not sure of, so be careful. If a vehicle does not meet your needs, do not allow the pressure of a salesperson force you into making an impulse purchase. Your chances of finding a great deal are better if you use all of your resources. Whether you select a dealership, an automotive magazine, or the Internet for buying your used car, following this basic advice will have you in the driver’s seat of the right used car before you know it.…
